In a groundbreaking partnership, Xbox has joined forces with Inworld to provide game developers with cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) tools aimed at simplifying the creation of characters, stories, and missions, ultimately reducing limitations and resource constraints during production.
Inworld, a tech company specializing in generative AI models for character creation, has entered into a multi-year agreement with Xbox, leveraging Microsoft’s cloud-based capabilities to offer game development tools.
Haiyan Zhang, the Head of Game AI at Xbox, expressed the goal of providing a responsible and accessible cross-platform set of AI tools to aid and empower creators in designing dialogues, stories, and missions. According to Zhang, “Our aim is to offer a range of cross-platform AI tools designed responsibly to help and empower creators in designing dialogues, stories, and missions.”

These AI tools will be available to developers as optional resources to streamline their work. The primary objective is to use AI to mitigate time and resource limitations during game production. To achieve this, they are already developing an AI co-pilot for Xbox.
This co-pilot is envisioned to convert design inputs into detailed scripts, dialogue trees, missions, and more, facilitating a more efficient development process. Additionally, developers will gain access to a character engine that enables “new narratives and dynamic generation of stories, missions, and dialogue.”
In their joint press release, both companies emphasized that AI has long been an integral part of game development. They noted, “The emergence of large language models and generative AI has opened new opportunities for storytelling and character engagement within games.”
