However, with the impending Chrome 116 version, stable updates will be rolled out on a weekly basis. This change, according to the company, will not disrupt the usual user experience in terms of Chrome usage or updates, nor will it impact the frequency of major releases.

The primary advantage of this revised update deployment strategy lies in the promptness with which security fixes will reach users in the event of any identified vulnerabilities. Google underlines that this alteration is in response to the nature of Chromium, the open-source project that drives Chrome and various other browsers. Chromium’s open-source structure permits anyone to submit changes for review, inspect modifications proposed by fellow users, and contribute security fixes.
Patches stemming from these contributions are initially disseminated to users of the Canary and Beta channels. These early adopters play a crucial role by identifying any unexpected issues related to stability, compatibility, or performance before the patch makes its way to the stable channel, encompassing the wider user base.
Although Google acknowledges the benefits of this system, it also acknowledges its potential downsides.
